The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has found that the median wage for a worker in the gambling sector for 2021 was £10.64, 21.2% below the national average pay.
The department published the statistical findings in a report collating economic data from January to December 2021 – however the department cautioned against too broad a reading of the statistics for the gambling industry, citing a small sample size which could lead to less accurate results.
The report also found a slight increase in the total number of filled jobs; which as of 2021 stood at 73,000 – an increase of 1,000 (0.9%) compared to 2020, but a decrease of 3,000 (4%) since the pre-pandemic year 2019.
Of these jobs: 41.7% were held by women, 20.8% by people with a disability and 12.3% by people from an ethnic minority background – excluding white minorities.
The report also found a gender pay gap of 6%, with women in the sector earning £0.94 for every £1 earned by their male colleagues.
